When I came upon this campsite, the fire was still burning under the rocks of the fire ring, and the camp was vacant. I put the fire out and stayed at the site for over 30 minutes to make sure the fire was out. This is poor leave no trace practices.

  • Burned artifact (utility pole) in the area of Camp 15 along the old railroad bed of the East Branch & Lincoln Railroad in the Pemigewasset Wilderness in Lincoln, New Hampshire. The EB&L Railroad was a logging railroad in operation from 1893 - 1948. In 2011, this utility pole was knocked down by campers and then burned in their campfire. It was one of only a handful of utility poles still standing along this railroad.

  • Resolution Shelter Removal Project White Mountains, NH - The Resolution shelter, located in the Dry River Wilderness, was closed in 2009 because of safety issues. The shelter was dismantled in December 2011 and volunteers will remove selected debris (asphalt shingles), scatter the logs throughout the area, and then the site will be rehabilitated. This is how the site looked in July 2012. This is a work in progress.

  • Built in the early 1900s, probably around 1906-1907, the historic Trestle No. 16 crosses Black Brook along the abandoned East Branch & Lincoln Railroad (1893-1948) in the Pemigewasset Wilderness, New Hampshire. Its believed the section of trestle that crossed the brook collapsed in late May or early June 2018. This image shows how the trestle looked in July 2018.

  • Artifact (barrel rings) at Camp 21A of the East Branch & Lincoln Railroad (1893-1948) in the New Hampshire White Mountains. This was a remote logging camp located off of the Shoal Pond Branch of the railroad in the general area of Ethan Pond. The removal of historic artifacts from federal lands without a permit is a violation of federal law.

  • The Thoreau Falls Trail bridge, which crosses the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River, in the Pemigewasset Wilderness on October 31, 2017. On October 29-30 a storm consisting of heavy rain and strong winds caused extensive damage throughout New Hampshire. The East Branch of the Pemi River flooded around the Thoreau Falls Trail bridge, but the bridge looks to have been untouched. This bridge has a tilt to it that is visible in the photograph.

  • Trail junction of the Wilderness Trail and Thoreau Falls Trail in the Pemigewasset Wilderness of the New Hampshire White Mountains during the winter months. During the days of the East Branch & Lincoln Logging Railroad (1893-1948) this was area was known as "North Fork Junction". The left branch of the railroad traveled into the Thoreau Falls valley, and the right branch traveled into the Stillwater Junction area.

Located in the White Mountains in between Mount Kancamagus and the East Peak of Mount Osceola, the 810-acre Greeley Ponds Scenic Area was designated a scenic area in 1964.
