In 2011, Tropical Storm Irene washed out part of the Mt Tecumseh Trail in New Hampshire. This is part of the rerouted section. Trail maintenance organizations say that only needed stone structures should be built along a trail, and stonework should look natural. After a trail inspection by Forest Service in June 2012 the walls on each side of the trail were removed. A defined path had been established and these walls no longer served any purpose. Removing the stones gives the trail a more natural look and feel. This photo shows before the stones were removed.
